Board certified in Pain Medicine as well as in Anesthesiology, Dr. Hassassian earned his medical degree at Eastern Virginia Medical School, after which he completed an internship in General Surgery at the Eastern Virginia Graduate School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Anesthesiology at New York University (NYU) Medical Center.
After completing fellowship training in Pain Medicine at the University of Maryland (UMD) Medical Center, he stayed on as a faculty member of the School of Medicine’s Department of Anesthesiology and served as an attending physician at the UMD Pain Center. Prior to his departure from UMD, he was an assistant professor of Pain Medicine and Anesthesiology. He was also the principal investigator of multiple research projects focusing on the treatment of different pain disorders.
Dr. Hassassian has extensive experience in all aspects of multi-disciplinary pain management including treatments of acute, chronic, benign, and malignant pain through the use of neuroablative, implantable, radiofrequency, endoscopy, and minimally invasive surgery techniques in outpatient and inpatient settings.
An advocate for timely, compassionate patient care, Dr. Hassassian has been recognized for his excellence by his colleagues and has repeatedly been selected as a “Top Doctor” by Washingtonian Magazine, Northern Virginia Magazine, and Castle Connolly.
