It’s a lot of hassle, there’s a lot of rules, and it makes Discord nearly unusable to under 13 year olds. But this is just a guess, since that’s why most sites do it. Edit: To be clear, Discord servers are in the USA, and therefore have to comply with USA laws. It doesn’t matter where you are personally accessing them from.
Recently the No Under 13 rule has come out. I, And many other discord users have found this rule pointless. I mean there is literally no point. Maybe I am missing something, But from my perspective, It should be the responsibility of the server owner to make sure the server is suitable for people that age, And then take action accordingly.
I suggest the rules be amended so that those under 13 have to have all their content filtered, have register with a parent account (Must be 18 years old) to make sure that parents approve of Discord for their younger child.
Some have jokes about being underage and wrongfully disabled. Discord is just as useful to children as adults, a lot of games that use discord are games for those under 13, it’s not fair if these children cannot use discord for their favorite games while adults can, especially if it’s a kid friendly game.
Can a 13 year old have an account on the internet?
But they can’t the COPPA law says that kids who are under 13 can have accounts on any internet platform with explicit permission from their legal guardian. Seeing that they have no reason to not implement this. I can’t understand why they are not doing it. Many adults tend to not understand kids.
Nitro and Nitro Gifting will be restricted so that the child can’t buy it without a parent’s permission. A Nitro Purchase request will be sent to the parent’s phone, with the type of subscription (Nitro Normal or Classic), duration of the subscription, (Monthly/Yearly), and the price of the subscription.
No matter how many “requirement of guadian for features” or “guardian permission”. Even with that. All their telemetries and cookies collect data of a child under 13, they can’t just know the person is under 13 and the person they are talking to is actually also under 13! Guardian permission can also be easily faked!
First of all, COPPA states that if an under 13 has parental permission, they can get data collected, which means they are technically allowed to use Discord. Many ppl under 13 also want to chat. Some children have friends they want to chat with easily during the pandemic. Unfortunately, they cannot do it due to the 13 year old rule.
After discord verifies that it is said user, they can allow them to change their birth date. Of course, all servers aren’t required to allow under 13’s if this were to happen, Just like how there are 18+ servers around Discord that don’t allow anyone from 13-17. And about the ones who are annoying. Yes.
Have a good day. Child Bakery, kids are mature, most of them on discord are around 10 wish I’d say so they are pretty mature. I agree too. also, doesn’t the discord Tos state that if you are under 13 you must have your legal guardian review and agree to the ToS and then people under 13 will then be able to use discord.
